Our Transportation Future
The North Rosslyn Civic Association (NRCA) is actively fighting a concerning proposal from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) that threatens our community's future. VDOT wants to widen I-495 from Springfield to Oxon Hill and expand privately operated toll lanes using land originally set aside for Metro expansion.
Why This Matters
Our community's growth depends on Metro access and foot traffic. The proposed Blue Line Loop would bring increased transit access and economic vitality to North Rosslyn and surrounding areas. By prioritizing highway expansion over rail development, VDOT is undermining our neighborhood's potential and ignoring sustainable transportation solutions.
We're skeptical about the claimed benefits of more toll lanes. Highway expansions consistently fail to reduce congestion, while investing in Metro provides lasting solutions by reducing car dependency. Additionally, we're concerned that VDOT's evaluation process appears biased against Metro expansion, with alternative rail proposals not receiving fair consideration.
